B.S. Forensic Science, Roger Williams University

I am Deven Bizzarro, a passionate researcher pursuing a M.S. in Environmental and Forest Chemistry at SUNY ESF. My time in higher education began at Roger Williams University where I received a B.S. in Forensic Science, specializing in Chemistry with minors in Cultural Studies and Criminal Justice. My research experience includes serving as a SURF Fellow with RI NSF EPSCoR, where I focused on environmental sampling, water chemistry, and water quality assessment. This work gave me hands on experience with advanced analytical techniques, specialized sample preparation, and analyzing environmental samples for metal pollution. I was able to present my work to fellow students and scientists at the American Chemical Society’s Spring 2026 Conference and at campus research showcases. My interdisciplinary work outside if STEM allows me to be a more well- rounded scientist and to connect with those outside of the field at a deeper level. 

I am driven by my intense curiosity about how metals operate in the environment and how they interact with living systems. My goal is to investigate watershed health and how chemical contaminants interact with emerging pollutants like microplastics. I hope to bridge the gap between chemistry and environmental biology to obtain data for better ecological risk assessment, while working with the community to find innovative solutions to the complex pollution problems facing the world. 

In my free time, I enjoy reading science books and manga, painting, thrifting, and exploring the nature around me.
